Kiwi heads home!
Perhaps our most enthusiastic overseas member, New Zealander, Graham Bell headed home last weekend after spending a hectic
4 weeks in theTown. Graham hails from Auckland and is a member at the prestigious 'Royal' Auckland Golf Club in Otahuhu. Since arriving in Carnoustie on his now annual visit, Graham has entered into the spirit of the Club by becoming involved in weekly sweepies and a monthly medal, playing with the likes of Jim Fulton, Frankie Bell, Nor Reid, Andy Gilbride, George Anderson and Dave Meek as well as weekday matches with former Captain Walter, Bill Simpson, Kenny Knowles, and Arliss. Thanks to all the members who made Graham feel welcome at our Club. Not only did he play golf, he volunteered to marshal at the Ladies Open, (although Coutie says he was more often than not watching the golf - rather than the spectators he was supposed to be looking after!) Before heading home, Captain JS presented Graham with an engraved quaich as a small memento of his visit to Scotland. Graham also graciously presented the Club with a trophy, named the 'KIWI SHIELD' which will be competed for by our members at the annual outing organised by Secretary Coutie. Hosts for Graham's visit, Bob and May Geddes were overwhelmed when Graham announced that he would definitely be returning next year! In fact, May was getting a bit of a reputation for never being out of the Station Bar - mmmm lovely gin and tonic!!!
We all look forward (even Bob and May) to welcoming Graham back next year.
Graham and long-suffering host May Geddes (only joking Graham!)
